ECOALIANZA ANNOUNCES EXPOECOTURISMO

For immediate release: Plans are under way for this year’s this years’ premier adventure / ecotourism event in South America - Expoecoturismo 2004. The Venezuelan Andean regions of Táchira, Mérida, and Trujillo will co-host the event set for November 4-8. Expoecoturismo 2004 is the third annual such event this year co-hosted by EcoAlianza, a Venezuelan association consisting of NGO’s, adventure travel, ecotourism operators and other stakeholders in the adventure and ecotourism industry. The emphasis of this years’ event will be “Adventure Tourism in the Andes” however, visitors also will be able to meet exhibiting stakeholders in ecotourism from all over Venezuela. An international meeting, conference, workshops, cultural activities and various tours throughout the region will accompany the trade show. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend. The keynote presentation opening the ecotourism conference in Mérida is entitled “Ecolodges: Structure and Design.” Following the conference will be a spectacular opening ceremony for the main event – the Expo and Trade Show - in the adjoining State of Táchira (Nov 5-7). Tentative plans for the final day, Nov. 8, feature an adventure race in neighboring Trujillo State. “Our field trips will offer Expoecoturismo 2004’s international attendees the opportunity to view some of the most beautiful eco/adventure locations in the majestic Venezuelan Andes,“ says Paul Stanley, one of the event’s co-founders. “We are hoping too that we can attract leading international journalists that are specialists in adventure and ecotourism.” Speakers and presenters will include internationally renowned experts in the fields of Ecolodge Design and Building, Adventure Travel and Ecotourism – names will be announced shortly. For the press and major tour operators—a number of FAM/Press trips will be made available immediately preceding and following the conference / expo in the outlying Andean regions. Like last year’s event, the Venezuelan national press and TV will be there in force to cover the event.
