Venezuelan Consulate, Provita, and Angel-Eco Tours
Celebrate Earth Day With Presentation in New York City
New York/NY - April 22, 2002 --
The Venezuelan Consulate, Provita, and Angel-Eco Tours will acknowledge the efforts being made in Venezuela's Ecotourism and Biodiversity conservation with a special Earth Day celebration in New York City. Other institutions participating in the event are the Wildlife Trust and Green Team, an agency specializing in environmental advertising.
Venezuela is considered among the top countries richest in biological diversity and is categorized as "mega diverse" thanks to the large variety of animals and plant species it harbors. Venezuela is especially "rich" due to its location at the northern tip of South America. Within its 352,143 square miles one finds Caribbean coastline, the Andes, and the Amazonas; three of the most relevant geographical features of the subcontinent.
Earth Day has been celebrated worldwide since 1970 and was created to bring attention to the environmental issues of our planet and also to promote a conservationist conscience towards the world's natural resources. This year's slogan is "Protect our Home".
Coordinated by Earth Day Network, this year's campaign proposes five main themes: Biodiversity, Forests, Energy, Water, and Equity and Environment. Provita has been working with this important network for two years and is now joined by Angel-Eco Tours and The Venezuelan Consulate to organize this special event in New York City.
Biodiversity, forests and water will be highlighted in the subject matter of the presentations at the event. Dr. Mary Pearl, Executive Director of the Wildlife Trust, will present "The Future of Conservation", about projects and international leaders working with her organization, Provita being one of them. At the same time, Provita will display a video showcasing the progress achieved during its 15 years of working with endangered species in Venezuela. Ms. Lucia Pizzani, Director of International Affairs, will narrate Provita's video presentation.
Mr. Paul Stanley, President of Angel-Eco Tours, will present a segment on "Ecotourism in Venezuela" with a multi media presentation that will demonstrate how ecotourism can contribute to the sustainable development within the communities that they visit while giving commercial value to the spectacular National Parks of Canaima, Los Roques and The Andes, as they generate income to support environmental projects in each region.
To conclude, Jimmie Stone, Creative Vice-President of Green Team Advertising, will present the experience of this prestigious agency in the development of environmental campaigns supported by big private companies and how they
